This version of Fin + Frozen Blood comes as a 2xCD. - Two CD set. Factory Benelux presents a double disc anthology of singles, radio sessions and live tracks by cult Manchester group Crispy Ambulance, all recorded between 1980 and 1982. Disc 1 is forceful live album Fin, comprising live performances mix-desk recorded around Europe and the UK during the winter of 1981-1982. The CD closes with three bonus studio tracks, including both sides of the debut 7" single on Aural Assault Records from 1980, as well as Black Death, the b-side of 1982 single Sexus on Factory Benelux. Disc 2 is archive collection Frozen Blood, which includes both sides of the 10" single released on Factory Records in 1980, all 8 tracks from radio sessions recorded for Piccadilly Radio (July 1980) and John Peel (January 1981), plus 7 more live songs taped in 1982 but never studio recorded at the time. All 32 tracks have been transferred from the original analogue session tapes. 142 minutes of music in total. Cover portrait by Harry Papadopoulos. Note: the Piccadilly Session tracks 2-7 thru 2-10 are from the master tape unlike the original release where they were from a cassette copy, previously only available as a limited edition CDR or download from LTM. "Fin / Frozen Blood" is a CD release by the cult post-punk band Crispy Ambulance, issued by Factory Benelux / Indigo. The album captures the stark, atmospheric edge that characterized the early 1980s Manchester scene, combining angular guitar lines, hypnotic bass and stark, almost desolate soundscapes. The tracks move between tense, slow-burning pieces and more propulsive, rhythmic songs, with an emphasis on mood, repetition and a dark, introspective tone. Listeners can expect a sound that sits somewhere between post-punk, early cold wave and experimental rock, with an austere production that highlights the band's minimalistic yet powerful arrangements. This CD edition is aimed at collectors of Factory-related music, fans of classic post-punk and anyone interested in the more obscure corners of the era's underground.
Crispy Ambulance were part of the original Factory Records milieu in Manchester, associated with bands like Joy Division and Section 25. Known for their uncompromising, atmospheric style, they gained a lasting reputation among post-punk enthusiasts despite a relatively modest mainstream profile. Their original releases on Factory and related labels have since become sought-after items, and the band's work has been frequently cited as an influential example of the darker, more experimental side of post-punk.
Factory Benelux is a long-standing label closely connected to the legendary Factory Records heritage, dedicated to preserving and reissuing key recordings from that era as well as related material. The label is known for its careful curation, high-quality packaging and attention to archival detail, offering definitive editions that respect the original artistic vision. Distributed or partnered here with Indigo, a reputable independent distributor, this release benefits from solid production standards and reliable availability for collectors and new listeners alike. | | | No. of tracks: |
