On this record, Empathy Test refine their signature blend of lush synthesizer soundscapes, emotive vocals and cinematic atmospheres into a cohesive, modern dark-pop statement. The songs move between fragile introspection and soaring, hook-laden choruses, creating a mood that is both nostalgic and intensely contemporary. "Monsters" explores themes of anxiety, relationships, and inner demons, carried by warm analog synths, driving electronic beats and haunting melodies that linger long after the final track fades. The crystal-clear production and carefully layered arrangements make this CD an immersive listening experience, whether on headphones or a full stereo system.
Empathy Test, formed in London, have built an international following with their emotionally charged synth-pop, drawing comparisons to classic 80s acts while carving out a distinct identity in today's alternative and darkwave scenes. With previous releases and extensive touring across Europe and beyond, the duo have earned a reputation for powerful live performances and a dedicated fan base. Their songs have featured on numerous scene playlists and compilations, and "Monsters" marks a creative high point that consolidates their strengths: memorable songwriting, heartfelt lyrics and a cinematic, melancholic sound that appeals to both synth-pop veterans and new listeners.
