 | | Description: | The Roots of Finnish Funk: das super-rare 1975er Album des funky Soulsängers Charles
Williams.
Williams' Love Is a Very Special Thing
Just As Long / Funky Music (1976), die bisher nie wieder
SPECIAL THINGRecorded at:

Marcus Music - Stockholm, Sweden"Love Is A Very Special Thing" is an LP that captures Charles Williams in an intimate, soulful and carefully arranged setting, where every track revolves around the central theme of love in its many shades - from quiet tenderness to uplifting optimism. Warm analog sonics, detailed instrumental work and a spacious mix make this record a particularly rewarding listen on vinyl, inviting you to sink into its melodies and emotional depth from the first groove to the run-out. The sequencing of the album is thoughtfully constructed, creating a narrative arc that moves from reflective, almost meditative pieces to more rhythmically driven and hopeful moments, making the LP ideal both for focused listening and for setting a special mood at home.
Charles Williams has earned a reputation among discerning listeners for his expressive playing and his ability to balance melodic clarity with emotional nuance. His work often draws on classic soul, jazz-tinged harmonies and rich, cinematic arrangements, and he is especially appreciated by vinyl collectors who favour timeless, heartfelt music over short-lived trends. On "Love Is A Very Special Thing", he leans into this strength: his phrasing is unhurried but precise, and there is a strong sense of storytelling throughout the record that showcases his maturity as an artist and composer.
The LP format is particularly well suited to this album. Pressed with great care, it offers a full, detailed soundstage with a solid low end, present but never harsh highs and a lifelike midrange that lets Williams' performance really breathe. The larger artwork area of the 12-inch sleeve also underscores the album's classic character and makes it a striking piece in any collection, inviting you to experience the music as a complete, tactile work rather than just a playlist of individual tracks.
Svart Records, the label behind this release, is known for its high-quality vinyl editions and a catalogue that ranges from cult classics to carefully selected contemporary releases. Based in Finland, Svart has built a strong reputation among collectors for its attention to detail: from sound mastering tailored to the vinyl medium to robust, well-printed sleeves and often small, sought-after press runs. With "Love Is A Very Special Thing", Svart once again underlines its commitment to artistically significant, long-lasting records that are produced with audiophiles and dedicated music lovers in mind. | | | Manufacturer No.: |
