"Double Sun" is a CD release by the Norwegian band Kanaan, presenting an expansive journey through psychedelic rock, heavy kraut jams and exploratory improvisation. Across its tracks, the trio blends fuzz-laden guitars, fluid basslines and powerful, often hypnotic drumming into long-form pieces that feel both free and tightly focused. The album shifts organically between thunderous, riff-driven climaxes and more atmospheric passages, capturing the raw energy of a live jam while still offering clear structures and memorable motifs. "Double Sun" is particularly appealing for listeners who enjoy instrumental rock that stretches out and evolves, with themes that slowly build, dissolve and re-emerge in new forms.
Kanaan have built a strong reputation in the contemporary psych and jazz-rock underground for their dynamic interplay and adventurous sound. Known for combining elements of psychedelic rock, space rock, krautrock and jazz-inflected improvisation, the band's releases and live performances are often praised for intensity, tight musicianship and a distinctive sense of flow. Over the years they have become a staple name for fans of modern Scandinavian psych and experimental rock, frequently noted in specialist press and among collectors for their consistent quality and evolving style.
The CD edition of "Double Sun" by El Paraiso / Cargo underlines the album's audiophile and collector-friendly approach, typically featuring careful sound and a presentation aimed at fans who value both musical depth and physical format. El Paraiso Records is known as a specialist label with a strong focus on psychedelic, experimental and instrumental rock, often associated with high-quality pressings, cohesive artwork and a curated roster of bands that share an exploratory spirit. In cooperation with Cargo as distributor, the label ensures that niche yet ambitious releases like "Double Sun" reach an international audience of dedicated listeners and collectors.
Double Sun offers a bunch of Stoner Rock-tracks with some ingredients of Space Rock. On the basis of driving drums and grooving bass-lines a heavy-riffing guitar creates a massive sound-wall. In the longer tracks as "Mountain" or "Öresund" dominates the organ with some heavy solo-parts which remind on 70s hammond-patterns and with some spacy ornaments in the tradition of Hawkwind. There are dynamic parts and slower ones as the beginning of the title-track. This track is different because the guest-guitarist B. Klakegg plays a distinct lead guitar. The sound of the CD is transparent and well balanced.
