Spanning over 14 tracks, this 2015 album from the Canadian-born singer/songwriter features collaborations with Janelle Monáe and newcomer, Taiwanese rapper Aristophanes. It was recorded primarily in her home studio in Los Angeles, CA, where she relocated to in 2014. Like all of her previous albums, Art Angels was written and recorded entirely as a solo endeavor. The album features more live instrumentation than ever before on a Grimes record. She plays piano, guitar and violin, continuing her evolution as a musician and a producer for her most ambitious album to date.
"Art Angels" is the acclaimed studio album by Canadian artist Grimes, presented here in the CD format and released via the renowned independent label collective 4AD / Beggars Group / Indigo. On "Art Angels", Grimes fuses art pop, electronic, indie and experimental elements into a vivid, hyper-melodic soundscape that is both accessible and avant-garde. The album is characterized by high-energy tracks, inventive vocal production, genre-blending arrangements and a strong conceptual, almost cinematic atmosphere, ranging from euphoric anthems to darker, introspective pieces. Its dense production, sharp hooks and imaginative sound design have made "Art Angels" one of the defining pop records of its era and a key work in Grimes' discography.
As a physical CD edition, this release is designed for listeners who appreciate a tangible, collectible version of the album, with carefully sequenced track order and sound tailored for full-album immersion. "Art Angels" stands out as a statement of artistic independence: Grimes writes, produces and arranges her own material, crafting a personal, idiosyncratic sonic universe that challenges the boundaries between underground and mainstream pop.
Grimes (Claire Boucher) is a multidisciplinary musician, producer and visual artist who emerged from the Montreal DIY scene and quickly gained international recognition for her unique blend of dream pop, electronic music and experimental sound art. Before "Art Angels", she attracted wide attention with her breakthrough album "Visions", which brought her critical acclaim, strong cult followings and festival appearances worldwide. With "Art Angels", she further expanded her audience and cemented her reputation as one of the most inventive and influential figures in contemporary pop, celebrated for her self-produced sound, striking visuals and fearless aesthetic risks.
The album is released under 4AD / Beggars Group / Indigo, a constellation of labels and distributors known for their commitment to artistically ambitious independent music. 4AD, part of the Beggars Group, has a long history of supporting visionary artists and shaping alternative music culture, while Indigo is a key partner for distribution, bringing these releases reliably into record stores and to listeners.
