| Description: | Think of a group of musicians who have decided to investigate their creative process. First of all, there would have to be a willingness to make room for a wide range of experience, an openess to the unexpected. When the flow of ideas circulates, pulsing and percolating, cutting a course through a variety of musical styles, the potential for new music emerges. This is the Fourth Stream. A wooden box drum is juxtaposed with piano akin to Rachmaninoff. Free improvisation can exist inside highly structured compositions. The lyrics of a song surge dramatically against a dark swirling bass, while modal timbres splash against Haitian rhythms. The Fourth Stream is an exploration by four accomplished musicians. Some compositions are contributed by individual members, others are especially selected from the world of music for their dramatic value. Every time you hear The Fourth Stream you hear form, and yet you hear something completely new. You will hear an authentic expression that is all about listening, a changing drama that is all about trust, as the creative urge searches for a new path - The Fourth Stream. |
