Made in the EU."Fisherman's Box" is an extensive CD collection by The Waterboys, released by the renowned label Chrysalis. This edition explores the band's celebrated "Fisherman's Blues" era, capturing a fertile creative period in which their sound evolved from powerful rock with "big music" arrangements to a rich, roots-inspired blend of folk, rock, and Celtic influences. Across the discs, listeners experience alternate takes, studio sessions, and rare recordings that shed light on the band's songwriting process and their organic, improvisational way of working. The result is a deep, atmospheric journey that feels intimate yet expansive, appealing both to long-time fans and to new listeners who want to dive into one of the most important chapters of the band's history.
The Waterboys, formed in the early 1980s around singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Mike Scott, quickly became known for their epic, anthemic sound and poetic lyrics. They achieved international recognition with albums such as "This Is the Sea" and the song "The Whole of the Moon," which has become a classic and is still widely celebrated. With "Fisherman's Blues," the band shifted toward a more acoustic, folk-oriented style, integrating Irish and Scottish traditional elements and helping to shape the landscape of Celtic rock. Over the decades, The Waterboys have remained a respected and influential presence in alternative rock and folk-rock, known for powerful live performances and a consistently evolving sound.
Chrysalis, the manufacturer and label behind this release, has a storied history in the music industry. Established as an independent label in the late 1960s, Chrysalis became home to numerous key artists in rock, pop, and new wave. The company is known for long-term artist development, high production standards, and an artist-friendly ethos that allowed bands like The Waterboys to pursue ambitious projects. With "Fisherman's Box," Chrysalis underscores its reputation for carefully curated archival releases that add real value for collectors and music lovers, presenting the material with attention to detail and respect for the original artistic vision.
