"See See The Sun" is the debut album by Dutch progressive rock band Kayak, presented here as a high-quality CD edition by Cherry Red Records. Originally released in the early 1970s, the album showcases the band's distinctive blend of melodic symphonic rock, intricate arrangements and piano-driven songwriting. With its mixture of concise songs and more expansive pieces, "See See The Sun" captures a band at the beginning of its creative journey, balancing accessible hooks with subtle instrumental complexity and atmospheric passages that will appeal to fans of classic progressive and art rock.
Kayak are known for their refined songcraft, strong vocal harmonies and a characteristic balance between rock energy and symphonic elegance. Over the years, the group has built a loyal following in the European prog scene, releasing a series of albums that cemented their reputation as one of the more melodic and song-oriented bands in the genre. Their work has been praised for its tasteful keyboard work, carefully structured compositions and an ear for memorable melodies that stand out among their contemporaries.
This CD edition on Cherry Red Records offers a carefully curated reissue that respects the character of the original recording while making it accessible to a new generation of listeners and collectors. Cherry Red Records, a long-established UK-based independent label, has earned an excellent reputation for its lovingly assembled catalogue reissues, particularly in rock, pop and alternative genres. "See See The Sun" on CD is therefore both a time capsule of early 70s progressive rock and an inviting entry point into the world of Kayak, offering sophisticated arrangements, emotional melodies and a distinctive European prog flavour, presented with the preservation-minded approach for which Cherry Red Records is widely respected.
